LFDCS Opens New School - The Academy for Early Academic Preparation
The Academy for Early Academic Preparation opened on Tuesday, August 28th as a result of Lawrence Family Development Charter School (LFDCS) being awarded a 200-student expansion in December 2010. LFDCS has restructured its facilities to accommodate that expansion over the next 8 years and grow from a 600 to an 800 student body—K-1 through grade 8. The new building will allow LFDCS to expand without interruption of its academic programs and will house K-1, K-2 and grade 1 students. Our West Street site will serve students in grades 2-4, and our Haverhill Street campus will continue to educate students in grades 5 through 8.
The Academy is structured to maximize early learning for 4, 5 and 6 year olds, enabling them to have a successful educational experience. The facility has a literacy center and open concept library. There are also mini computer labs and interactive white boards in every K-2 and grade 1 classroom. Teachers have access to materials and references from around the world through the building’s complete wireless internet system. Students also have access to intervention and web-based programs from their home computers. The building is air conditioned and has a video surveillance system for child safety.
The school’s maintenance department, with the assistance of plumbing and electrical contractors, worked tirelessly over the past 6 months to renovate the building to accommodate its 240 students.
