Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
The onset of racial reckoning in 2020 around the world brought about the social justice movement of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. From fortune 500 corporations to small non-profits and schools to government agencies, every executive, board member, and employees at all levels made it a priority to align with the tenets of DEI.
Diversity is about celebrating differences in race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, nationality, socioeconomic status, age, and political perspectives.
Equity is about providing equal access based on individual needs. It can be seen in the opportunities and resources provided for an individual to thrive in the environment. It is not the same thing as equality.
Inclusion is about fostering a sense of value and empowerment in everyone. It is not enough that everyone is at the table; everyone must feel that they belong at the table.
