We’re seeking dedicated, passionate community stakeholders, parent representatives, and alumni to serve on the LFDCS Board of Trustees.
About the Board of Trustees:
Per the MA Department of Elementary Education, “A strong board defines the mission of the school, develops school policies and changes them when appropriate, hires qualified personnel to manage the school’s day-to-day operations and holds them accountable for meeting established goals, and formulates a long-range plan and charter school accountability plan that will ensure the school’s continued stability.
In addition to its many other responsibilities, the board must ensure that the school is complying with all of the state and federal laws that apply to the school and that the school is operating in accordance with its charter and with any approved amendments to its charter.”

Who are we looking for?
We are seeking parents, alumni, and community stakeholders who:
Board of Trustees Positions:
Chair
Oversees implementation of board and organizational policies and ensures that appropriate administrative practices are established and maintained. Responsibilities include: developing the agendas, working with other members to develop both immediate and long-term goals, and developing and maintaining an effective board culture.*
Vice Chair
The secondary volunteer leader and as such, discharges the duties of the Chair as required in the Chair’s absence. The Vice Chair supports the activities of the Chair including sharing responsibilities as appropriate.*
Treasurer
Provides direction for the financial management of the organization and facilitates the board in meeting its financial oversight responsibilities.*
Clerk
Provides direction for the keeping of legal documents including minutes of all meetings of the board of the school.*
Trustees (6 Total)
Ensures the academic program is successful; that the organization’s program and operation are faithful to the terms of its charter; and that the school is a viable organization.**

Board of Trustees Meetings:
The Board of Trustees typically meets one Wednesday a month. In addition, members have the option to join the Finance Subcommittee and the Academic Advisory. For previous meeting notes, please visit this link.
Time Commitment:
Our Board of Trustees members commit to attending monthly board meetings, participating in committee work, and supporting school events if needed. This typically is 3-5 hours per month, which may vary depending on Board and school needs. A Board of Trustee member can serve two three-year terms maximum, for a potential six-year period of time serving.
